Abstract

The study was carried out from June 2023 to December 2023 to monitor changes in physiological and blood biochemical indicators of cats infected with Feline Panleukopenia virus (FPV), monitoring the effectiveness of treatment support. Cats infected with FPV at Ninh Kieu - Binh Thuy inter-district Veterinary Department, Can Tho city; Of the total 468 cats examined and treated, 67/468 cats were positive for FPV, accounting for 14.32%. The rate of disease caused by FPV by age shows that cats from 1-6 months of age have the highest infection rate (46.67%), cats from 7-12 months of age have a disease rate of 25.64% and cats from 7 to 12 months of age have a disease rate of 25.64%. Over 12 months old, the lowest rate is 13.89%. The disease rate in domestic cat breeds is quite high, accounting for 40.18% and in foreign cat breeds is lower, accounting for 23.91% (P<0.05). Regarding gender, the disease rate in male and female cats is 34.62 and 31.00%, respectively (P>0.05). Cats vaccinated against FPV had a disease rate of 7.63% compared to the unvaccinated group of 67.44% (P<0.01). Typical symptoms of FPV are lethargy, fatigue, eating little or not eating, high fever, diarrhea, bloody stools, and vomiting with a frequency of 83-100%. Blood biochemical physiology test results showed that the number of white blood cells decreased sharply to only 0.75, platelets decreased to 123 and red blood cells were still within the normal range. Cats positive for FPV were given supportive treatment and the treatment effectiveness was recorded as follows: Recovery after 5-7 days of treatment was a relatively low rate of 22.39%, disease remission was 8.95%. % and the group that did not recover was 68.66%.
