Abstract

Banana is one of the important fruit crops in tropical and subtropical countries. Wilt banana disease (Panama) caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc) is the most damaging disease on banana. Evaluation of the local banana germplasm under field conditions has identified 5 promising banana varieties including: Ngu banana, tieu xiem banana, tay banana, tay thai banana and do banana. 5 promising banana varieties were evaluated response to Foc causing wilt banana disease in greenhouse conditions. Evaluation of banana varieties' response to wilt banana disease 90 days after infection (90 NSLN): Disease index in varieties ranges from 2.38 - 35.24% (Level 3 - 7). The lowest is the tieu xiem banana variety (2.38% - Level 3), the highest is the tay thai banana variety (35.24% - Level 7). Early findings show that tieu xiem banana variety has been identified as resistant, ngu banana and do banana variety are moderate susceptible to the wilt banana disease.
