EFFECTS OF PRUNING AND FOLIAR FERTILIZERS USING ON “SIEU SOM” JACKFRUIT CULTIVAR IN CAI BE DISTRICT, TIEN GIANG PROVINCE

Abstract

Research on the effects of branch pruning techniques and foliar fertilizer on flowering, fruiting, yield, and quality of “sieu Som” jackfruit cultivar in Cai Be district, Tien Giang province was conducted during 8/2023 - 5/2024 on the 5-year-old jackfruit trees. The 2-factor experiment was arranged in (Split - plot design): The secondary factor (subplot) includes 3 treatments (K1: Thinning branches, K2: Pruning bare branches and control K3: No pruning), the main factor includes 4 treatments (P1: YaraVita BudBooster, P2: Potassium Boron, P3: Super Calcium Boron and control P4: Water spray). The results show that applying the branch thinning technique combined with spraying super calcium boron foliar fertilizer helped jackfruit trees have the earliest flowering time (38.7 days after pruning), while promoting an increased female flower rate of 65.6%, the highest yield of 33.5 kg/tree compared to the control only yield of 26.1 kg/tree, quality of fruit flesh did not different from the other treatments. Applying the technique of thinning branches combined with spraying foliar fertilizer with Potassium Boron, the tree has a flowering time of 40 days, the highest female flower rate is 67.7% and the yield is 32.8 kg/tree. The Brix degree in fruit flesh is 23.4% highest compared to other treatments and the control treatment is only 21.4%. Applying branch thinning techniques combined with spraying super Calcium Bo foliar fertilizer or Potassium Boron foliar fertilizer on jackfruit trees helped increase economic efficiency with profits reaching 252.8 - 279.1 million VND/ha.
