This study aimed to select the okra varieties with in-built salt-tolerance to include in the short-season salt-tolerant plant varieties. Experiment 1 studied the germination ability of three okra varieties Nam canh, Sieu san and Cao can, when watered with saline water at the concentrations of 2 and 4‰. Experiment 2 examined the growth ability of the above three okra varieties on saline soils from experiment 1. The two experiments were arranged in a two-factor factorial completely randomized design with 4 replications and were carried out under greenhouse conditions. Use of NaCl salt mixed with the canal water to achieve the salinity concentrations of 2 and 4‰ (equivalent to EC 3.68 and 6.71 dS/m respectively) (Experiment 1). After the completion of Experiment 1, the saline soils were reused in the Experiment 2. The results showed that speed of germination, number of leaves, plant height, root length, shoot and root fresh weight of three okra varieties decreased when watering with the saline water of 2 and 4‰ for 14 days. Of which, the Nam canh variety showed the greatest growth inhibition. The membership function value showed that the Sieu san variety has the highest salt tolerance under watering the saline water of 2 and 4‰ and growing on respective saline soils.
